Self-Adhesive Tape Application Machine
This bespoke machine was developed to apply either plain, pressure set, self-adhesive tape inline onto an extrusion or to apply a liquid adhesive followed by the tape. Orientation of the extrudate and no adhesive bleed were just 2 of the problems we had to overcome with this challenging machine. Now with all the variables controlled by the PLC and touchscreen HMI the operator can set up a job from a recipe and get on with the task at hand, keeping control of the process and the quality of the final product.
Breathing new life into older equipment
The machine had already had a good working life but our customer asked us to strip and assess the machine for future use. At around 60 years old we had to tread carefully around parts that were unlikely to be available !
After a full strip and rebuild we machined an adaptor plate to enable a modern ABB motor to be installed.
A new control panel was built and wired with safety interlocks fitted to the rolls and controlled with PILZ safety relays.
Improving operator saftey
Whilst already fitted with an outfeed guard, our customer had found that short cut lengths would build up in the guard and block the cutter. To make matters worse, operators had been seen to reach in toward the blade on occasion....
Extrusion Developments designed and manufactured an outfeed conveyor integrated into a fully compliant guard and fitted it to the customer's existing machine. The motor controls and wiring were installed in the existing control cabinet and all works were carried out at the customer's site ensuring minimum disruption to production.
Short lengths of profile can now be cut and delivered to a waiting stillage without any need for operators to interfere. All of the machines original safety interfaces remain in place making this a very cost effective solution.
SPINDLE DRIVE UPGRADE
Replacement of an older motor unit and associated drive
The motor variator unit on this spindle drive was past it's best and we were asked to asses the whole machine and provide a solution to best serve the customer into the future
We installed a new 1.1kW motor/gearbox unit to the spindle drive.
We then installed a new control cabinet and 2 operator push button stations to simplify the myriad of electrical add-ons which had existed previously.
The drives were programmed to ensure the spindle stopped immediately in the event of Emergency Stop being operated, a significant safety upgrade from the previous version.
